AJWS President Ruth Messinger speaks at housewarming event for their move into J Space betaAJWS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing nonsectarian humanitarian assistance and emergency relief to disadvantaged people worldwide. Jumpstart and the rest of the J Space community is thrilled to have them join the collective. From their new location, AJWS hopes to do even more to inspire you and to effect change around the world.

Moishe House Executive Director/Co-founder David Cygielman. The topic was “Build Local – Go Global: The emerging model of the distributed Jewish enterprise.” David and Eli talked about their experiences building new organizations that are both very localized for each community, and centralized by a headquarters that manages the overall vision.

David Cygielman
Moishe House is a new organization that provides meaningful Jewish experiences for young adults around the world by supporting leaders in their 20′s as they create vibrant home-based Jewish communities. Through a variety of programs that reflect the local communities where they are based, Moishe House is building a world-wide network of locations and leaders that are shaping Jewish life in the 21st century.

Eli Winkelman Challah for Hunger is a program that engages young people in baking and selling challah (a traditional Jewish bread) to raise money and awareness for social justice issues. Challah for Hunger now has thirty-five chapters, mostly based on college campuses in the U.S. The chapters bake and sell challah; each chapter donates half of its profits to Challah for Hunger’s national cause (Darfur, through AJWS) and chooses what causes/organizations to support with the other half of the profits.
